Meet the Team

Neurocognitive Speciality Group was founded by our principal doctors: Dr. Nicholas Wisdom and Dr. Robert Collins. Our board-certified neuropsychologists, with the administrative and clinical support of the rest of the NSG team, work hard to support the psychological testing and mental health needs of patients all across the country.

Dr. Wisdom received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Oklahoma State University in 2010. His clinical internship was completed at Yale University, and then he followed that up with a fellowship at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Nicholas Wisdom, Ph.D., ABPP

Dr. Collins is a board certified clinical neuropsychologist (ABPP), practicing in Houston, Texas since 2006. Daniel Proto

Dr. Dan Proto earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University in 2012. He completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Birmingham VA Medical Center and University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center training consortium, and a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. Dr. Proto is board certified in clinical neuropsychology with the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology. He is a licensed psychologist in the states of Florida and Kansas.

Rose Dunn

Dr. Dunn joined Neurocognitive Specialty Group in 2020. She has been practicing as a clinical neuropsychologist in the Dallas area for the last three years. Dr. Dunn completed her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the University of North Texas in 2016. Her clinical internship was completed at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System in Austin, Texas followed by a two-year APPCN postdoctoral residency in neuropsychology at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Dunn also serves as an adjunct professor for doctoral students at the University of North Texas.

Thomas Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen is a clinical neuropsychologist and joined Neurocognitive Specialty Group in 2020. Dr. Nguyen received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Oklahoma, master’s degree at Purdue University, and doctorate degree at the University of North Texas. He completed an APA-accredited internship at the Dallas VA and a two-year APPCN postdoctoral residency in neuropsychology at the Houston VA. Dr. Nguyen has held leadership positions in the Asian Neuropsychology Association, Vietnamese Neuropsychological Network, and the Sports Neuropsychology Society. His hobbies include watching and playing sports, eating any and all types of foods, and spending time with friends and family, including his wife and two infant children.

Jesse Smotherman

Dr. Jesse Smotherman is a Clinical Neuropsychologist who joined Neurocognitive Specialty Group in 2022. He earned his B.S. from Louisiana State University, his M.S. from the University of North Texas, and his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. He completed an APA-accredited internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, with a specialized track in clinical neuropsychology, before completing a two-year APPCN postdoctoral residency in clinical neuropsychology at Ochsner Health in the Department of Neurology. In addition to research and teaching experience, as well as years of practice as a psychometrist, Dr. Smotherman has received extensive training from board-certified neuropsychologists across a wide array of academic medical centers, VA hospitals, community-based clinics, inpatient units, and private practices, including: Ochsner Hospitals/Clinics, Dallas VA Hospital, OKC VA Hospital, University of Oklahoma Medical Center, OU Children’s Hospital, Baylor Memory Center, UNT Psychology Clinic, and LSUHSC Psychiatry Department, among others. Dr. Smotherman is licensed in the state of Louisiana, where he was born, raised, and proudly calls home.
